katie wants to work on this

2

Hi, I decided I don't want to work on the body shop in two classes, so Jon had previously suggested previously that I work on this. I have a commercial that goes with it that I didn't upload. I want to keep the same idea, but I need two more print and obviously a new direction visually. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  1. katie,

please post some thumbnails. the onus shouldn't be on the teachers to create the ideas. it's our job to provide feedback on your ideas.

for starters, please explore visual ideas that depict what Ace Hardware offers in a visual way.

I would prefer that you continue working on the Body Shop. Jon & I spent considerable time in class working with you on that campaign. Instead of abandoning that campaign, why not polish it into a Spring Show Winner?

  2. ok David, you're absolutely right. I'll keep going with the body shop. I found a photographer who is willing to work with me on it, however my campaign now relies on someone else to get the photography part done and that worries me... :/

  3. katie,

this is what an art director does. you are responsible for "directing the art".
in this case, you will work with the photographer and coordinate props, and more importantly "your vision" of what the shots should look like. you should develop "tight comps" of the 3 ads with "headline / bodycopy / logo & tagline" - in this way, the photography will understand how much background you need as well as your composition. It's also helpful to have " a mood board" showing the type of "look & feel" you want to achieve. A good source is workbook.com, you can scroll through tons of "online portfolios" of different types of photographers who specialize in different categories. In your case, I would hunt through "still life & fashion/ accessories" photogrpahers for further inspiration.
Actually the photo shoot is IN YOUR HANDS. You need to get tight comps, mood boards, props and SCHEDULE a time that mutually works with the photographer to shoot the 3 ads. You obviously NEED TO BE at the shoot to direct your vision of ads. Also, allow the photographer to offer suggestions for composition, etc.

  4. hey David,

Now I am working with two different photographers on this (but they don't know that). They both have different styles so I'm hoping between the two of them I'll find something I like. Better not to spread myself too thin. I'm meeting with one of them tonight and one of them tomorrow night
How long do we have to work on this? I hate to push these people since they have school and work too, but i'd like to make it in time for the spring show.....

i'm a writer, not an art director, so Im going to try my hardest to make this work out for me.
